Members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 134 in Chicago celebrated the grand opening of their new headquarters and union hall in May 2018 – a renovation project that has been described in glowing terms that are reflective not only of the building’s light-filled architectural design but of its significant impact on the surrounding Bronzeville neighborhood revitalization.

Architecture can often become a product of its environment, responding to community needs while blending into an already established environment. In the case of Crosstown Elementary School, its creation was in response to Vancouver’s imminent need for more primary education facilities. The result is a four-story structure that blends seamlessly into the “urban fabric” of the Canadian cityscape.

A big compliment to architects is hearing that one of their building designs has become a recognizable landmark.

That’s the case for architects at the Los Angeles office of Arquitectonica International Corp. who designed the Olume residential building in San Francisco’s Mission District with a unique multi-layered cube-like metal façade featuring a total of five custom earth-toned colors of Alucobond® Plus aluminum composite material (ACM).
